Peter Stris ’93 is a leading business litigator recognized for his expertise in high-stakes trials, landmark appeals, and strategic media-response campaigns. He is also a Founding Partner of Stris & Maher LLP, an elite litigation boutique headquartered in Los Angeles.

A veteran courtroom lawyer, Peter has “successfully first-chaired a wide variety of bet-the-farm business cases to verdict or judgment” (LA Business Journal). His trial-court work has led to his repeated recognition as one of the “Top 100 California Lawyers” (Daily Journal) and to his firm being twice named a finalist for National Boutique of the Year (The American Lawyer).

An elected fellow of both the American and California Academies of Appellate Lawyers, Peter also represents clients in federal and state appellate courts across the country. His victories in “key matters” frequently make the exclusive Appellate Hot List (National Law Journal).  Reuters has identified him as one of the most influential advocates before the U.S. Supreme Court, where he has argued 10 cases.

Beyond the courtroom, Peter is a sought-after legal strategist known for managing high-profile litigation communications. He has led real-time media campaigns in significant cases, personally appearing on broadcast networks (Good Morning America, The Today Show, Anderson Cooper 360, The Rachel Maddow Show) and having his work featured prominently in national publications (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post).

Peter litigates on both the plaintiff and defense sides, representing companies, government entities, non-profits, investors, and executives. He is also frequently hired by other attorneys to play a leading role in their most important and difficult cases.

Peter earned his J.D. in 2000 from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review.  He received his B.A. in 1997 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he won the National Debating Championship (thanks, in large part, to his four years of debate training at Chaminade)!
